American University and the Nature Conservancy joined forces yesterday to hold an eco-comedy video competition for the DC Environmental Film Festival, which will take place on March 20.
Contestants must create a short, comedic video related to this year’s theme of Conservation and Environmental Protection, said Chris Palmer, environmental filmmaker and event organizer. The grand prize for the contest is a $2,000 award from AU’s Center for Environmental Filmmaking.
Anyone worldwide can submit a film, as long as it is a humorous, original and broad-reaching video that centers around the environment.
“I believe that this contest will draw necessary attention to environmental protection and sustainability, especially in this current political era,” said Palmer. “Not to mention, it will be entertaining for everyone to watch.”
According to Palmer, submissions should run for no more than three minutes and must be submitted to ecocomedy2018@gmail.com by March 1 in order to be considered. Finalists will be announced March 8, but the grand prize winner will not be revealed until the actual film festival in the McKinley Building’s Doyle/Forman Theater.
Event organizers said that finalists, and ultimately the winner, will be determined by a five-judge panel with representatives from the Nature Conservancy and AU’s Center for Environmental Filmmaking.
